Yup, it’s that time of year again! Americans are flying their flags proudly, picnicking with friends and family, and shooting off colorful explosives into the sky to celebrate their freedom. 

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted to proclaim their independence from Great Britain. Then they officially ratified the Declaration of Independence two days later, the day Independence Day is celebrated.

While John Adams, our second president, believed that the day should truly be observed on July 2nd, he was quickly overruled, and July 4th (also called the Fourth of July) has been a holiday commemorating American freedom and their ideals for over two hundred years. 

However, while the first official Fourth of July celebrations took place only one year after the Declaration of Independence’s ratification, it took nearly one hundred years before July 4th became an official federal holiday in 1870. Now, every year, it is a highly anticipated and extremely important holiday.

At Team Perka, we love our country! While not all of us were born in the United States, we appreciate all it stands for and everything it has provided through opportunity for us. Land of Opportunity, right?

After all, most of our customers are Americans. But more than that, we are grateful for the freedoms we experience and the honorable patriotism that our friends and neighbors exude. 

We are proud to serve the farmers, the veterans, medical workers, the first responders, law enforcement, civil servants, public officers, care givers, ministers, entertainers, educators, factory workers, entrepreneurs, the volunteers, (and the voluntolds!!) all those who serve this great nation as vital contributing members of society who have worked and are working together to live up to the morals and values set by our forefathers.

 If you are one of the people we specifically listed (or even someone we didn’t), thank you very much for your contributions to our country! Everyone can have a role that can make a difference.

We, too, hope to make contributions to this wonderful country, whether it is by helping our fellow Americans stay dry, store crops and machines, or by having impeccable customer service (wink, wink).

Enjoy the barbecue and fireworks. Speaking of which, did you know that John Adams was the person who first proposed that Independence Day be celebrated with fireworks? He was two days off on when we should celebrate it, but he at least was correct on one important aspect of the holiday. He understood the two main facets of Independence Day. Fireworks are fun, sure. But more importantly, July 4th is a day for us to commemorate, celebrate and affirm our freedom. And on that point, I don’t think John Adams would have argued. Have a wonderful Fourth of July!
