Recently, we celebrated a very important anniversary day, though not many people fully know and understand the history and significance of it.

Veterans Day takes place every year on November 11; a date which originally marked the conclusion of fighting in the first World War.

When the holiday first began, it was known as “Armistice Day” because of the armistice, or ceasefire, which was agreed upon between the Allied and Axis powers on that day. On that day’s one-year anniversary, President Woodrow Wilson declared it to be a time to remember and reflect upon the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to win the war and keep us free and made it a National Day for Celebration – or Holiday – which comes the Old English word hāligdæg (hālig “holy” + dæg “day”) – or HOLY DAY!

Seven years later, in 1926, Congress voted to make it an official United States, National holiday.

Though World War I was supposed to be the “war to end all wars”, the U.S. has participated in several wars since, so a day that was originally dedicated to veterans of the first World War eventually began commemorating soldiers of all wars.

Now it celebrates anyone who has served or is serving in the military, “with appropriate ceremonies of friendly relations with all other peoples”, as Congress put it when they made November 11 a national holiday.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says it best when they call Veterans Day “a celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good”.

Every DAY, we are very grateful to our veterans, both the ones we know and those we don’t, those who saw combat and those who enlisted during times of peace.

Perka is happy to support all the veterans we partner with as teammates, clients, partners, and co-creators.

From our Chief Vision Officer: “We have each other’s six. It’s one of our mottos”.

In other words, we have each other’s backs. We are a team, and we value our team members! And “teamwork makes the dream work”, as they say.

It may be a cheesy sentiment, but it is very much true. Our dreams are working because of the incredible team members we have and the Peace and Freedoms within which we get to practice them, EVERY DAY.

We would love to join your team and help make your dream become worthy of CELEBRATION EVERY DAY. Contact us or check out our website for more information about Perka, our work, and our team. Special thanks to all who have served and sacrificed for our world to live in PEACE.  Imagine, all the people…   We appreciate you. Have a great day!
